The fringed curtains of thine eye advance

William Shakespeare (The Tempest)

The eyepod.

A pendant consisting of nested boxes which open to intrigue the viewer and wearer. The idea for this came initially from the human prosthetic eye which I found at a car boot sale. It struck me that the somewhat creepy item needed to be treated with humour and I liked the idea of it peeking out through a lens of natural quartz...

Eyepod

Showing the double chain, allowing the piece to be worn at different lengths.

Eyepod

Open, revealling the prosthetic eye.

Eyepod

The boxes within.

Eyepod

Internal boxes, open. The top box has a mesh front, the idea being that it can be filled with scented materials.

Eyepod

Detail of the fastenings on the double chain.

Eyepod

Some of the "hidden" stones set in the chain at various points. Note also the swivel mechanisms which allow the chain to be fastened and unfastened without twisting.

Eyepod

The chain extension, worn alone.

Eyepod

Worn round the neck.

Eyepod

Worn over the shoulder at waist level.

The odd look of the piece came from my first sketch of an idea, the circular central section being reminiscent of the styling of the Apple i-Pod. The top part is wholly derived from drawings I made of rooflines in Edinburgh.

When the piece finally sold, I made a box for it, using an old cutlery box and fabric from a pair of antique chenille curtains:
