bearings Emergencies have always been necessary to progress. It was darkness which produced the lamp. It was fog that produced the compass.
The idea of the "bearing housing" lead me to the idea of compass bearings, which should be apparent in this piece, made from a corroded bearing housing found on the site of a derelict factory, sterling silver and various gemstones. It is hung from a beaded wire and fastened with a catch which shuts using rare earth magnets. The pendant is reversible.
The stones in this piece include amethyst, blue topaz, chrysophrase, peridot, green, frosted and clear quartzes, howlite, and blue lace agate.
The beading was done by Wendy Mudie of Edinburgh.
